Understanding tyre pressure for cars and 4X4s
Not sure what your tyre pressure should be on a specific terrain? View our list of tyre pressure requirements for all terrains.Please note that these guidelines are based on an average range of tyre sizes, not a specific size.
- Road: 2.2 - 2.6 bar
- Sand: 1.2 – 1.8 bar
- Smooth Gravel: 2.2 – 2.5 bar
- Rough Gravel: 1.8 – 2.2 bar
- Rocky Gravel: 1.5 – 1.9 bar
- Mud: 1.5 – 1.9 bar

How to check tyre pressure:
- Check the tyre and your vehicle's manual (This information can usually be found inside one of the front door openings). Check the above guide for different types of terrains too!
- Unscrew the tyre-valve cap.
- Push the tyre-pressure gauge firmly onto the tyre valve.
- Look the reading on the tyre-pressure gauge.
- If the pressure reading is too low, attach the air hose to the tyre valve and increase the pressure while checking your own gauge.
- Screw the cap back onto the valve tightly.
